Does the Late 2013 27in iMac 14,2 need a sensor when upgrading from an HDD to an SSD? I did the upgrade and the fans are not freaking out, but I want to make sure. I bought a Samsung 860 Pro and this adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ELR...). I also bought this sensor after seeing posts about the HDD sensor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J42...), but will return it if it is not required. Thanks!
It depends! Apple has altered the firmware on the newer 2013 models and so far newer systems. But its not cut and dry! If the system has both drives installed the system appears to leverage SMART input. But I’ve encountered issues when I’ve only put in a SATA drive alone. I would just use the OWC thermal sensor to be safe. As you have it just use it.
