My IBM lenovo R61i has been getting quite a bit slow. Adding more memory, reformatting the original HD have not increased it performance above 3.1 Would replacing the original HD with a SSD increase its’ speed?
Yes, replacing the hard drive with an SSD will gain a noticeable sped increase. Here is a video on hard drive removal for an R61 (not i), but it should be similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brbo-9Q-… However, if you are using Windows 7 rating for “3.1” to gauge performance, that may not improve as it chooses the slowest component (i.e. graphics card).
