I have a loud banging noise when washer is in spin cycle. I have checked to make sure machine is level. The machine acts if it has an unbalanced load in it, but the loads are fine. I did notice this noise starting, after I moved the machine around, to paint the walls behind it about 2 months ago and it just has gotten worse over time. it does make noise when empty. I replaced suspension pads as they looked worn and scuffed up the tub wear pads. removed balance ring, still has water in it. all suspension springs are intact, but when tub is moved side to side by hand, they do not return the tub to center level position. Do they wear out going bad, without breaking? I also took agitator hub off and moved main top shaft by hand, no distinct bearing noise at all. No play sideways or up/down on main drive shaft, but their is a noticeable clunk at certain spots in rotating the main shaft by hand. machine also has a noise when the tub engages - spin or wash-agitate. any ideas for next step to diagnose problem? thanks
Cause 1 Tub Bearing The tub bearing is mounted in the middle of the outer tub. The tub bearing helps to keep the inner tub spinning smoothly. Replacing the tub bearing is a very involved repair and will require disassembling most of the washer. If the tub bearing is defective, we recommend replacing both the outer tub and bearing as an assembly if the manufacturer offers the components together. Cause 2 Tub Seal and Bearing Kit The tub bearing is mounted in the middle of the outer tub. The tub bearing helps to keep the inner tub spinning smoothly. If the washer is noisy during the spin cycle or is leaking from the bottom of the tub near the transmission, the tub seal and bearing are likely defective. Replacing the tub bearing is a very involved repair and will require disassembling most of the washer. If the tub bearing is defective, we recommend replacing the outer tub and bearing at the same time. Cause 3 Rear Drum with Bearing The rear drum has a bearing or bearings in it to keep the inner tub spinning smoothly. If the tub bearing system is defective the washer can become very noisy. On some machines bearings are sold separately from the rear drum, however we recommend replacing both the outer drum and bearing as an assembly if the manufacturer offers the components together because removing and pressing in the new bearing can be exceptionally difficult. Be aware that replacing the outer tub and bearing is also not easy and can be very costly.
@canam13 , jason sklivas , The springs can become weak and throw off balance, or wear pads (#18 in dia.) could be worn also, check to see if suspension plate/skate plate (#17in dia.) is resting in proper position on base frame. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button. The links below as some have guides to replace parts and trouble shooting. Good luck.
