I had a mechanic work on my car with several oil leaks I still had oil leaking from underneath in about three spots once he was finished at that point I had more of a leak than when I started so I stopped going to this mechanic my son-in-law tightened the gaskets that seem to be loose and most of the leak had stopped. I decided to try the Lucas stop leak product that is put into your oil we added the product the leaking stopped all but one tiny drop on occasion but about a month and a half after adding this one day I was driving in a loud banging sound began out of nowhere for no reason the banging sound continued as I drove 10 minutes down the road to my niece’s house the car has been parked ever since there was nothing major going wrong other than an occasional one drip leak of oil from underneath the Lucas stop leak was added in a month and a half later I have this banging could the banging be caused by the stop leak or what can I do to narrow down my options of what the problem is we use the stethoscope to listen to where the sound was coming from and from what we can tell the sound is on the back side of the engine somewhere obviously it could be a rod or a lifter but it seems funny to us that so soon after adding the stop leak this is when the noise occurred
