Hi, I have a piece of history… A1297 17inch mid 2010 first gen i7 It has the aluminium bezel… just coming from mobo repair as the gone bad LVDS cable caused a bit of havoc around the connector. My question: the aluminium bezel on top of actual LCD panel - is that glued or clipped in? Can’t seem to find much…they are rare compared to usual glass covered panels. Any best practice advice as I need to remove the frame to get to the lcd end of the lvds.
First here is the IFIXIT guide for the job: MacBook Pro 17" Unibody LCD Replacement. While the guide goes deeper into replacing the screen you can follow it to the point you’ll need to get to replace the cable (Step33). While some people prefer to take the lid fully apart. I find I can sneak the cable though at the point the clutch cover is removed (go though Step26, then jump down to Step28 & Step29, then jump to Step33). Going this way I don’t deal with the cover glass at all.
