Hi all. I’ve been troubleshooting a Mac mini A1176 for a little while now. When I power on the computer, the white LED shines without blinking and I can hear the CPU fan and optical drive start up. However, no video is coming from the Mac. Additionally, I can’t tell if there’s a startup chime because the built-in speaker appeared to be damaged. Here’s what I’ve done so far: Reset SMCChecked wire connections inside the MacCleaned out the internalsReplaced CPU thermal compound and replaced CPU with a Core 2 Duo T7400Replaced PRAM battery Would it be the integrated graphics, a faulty DVI connector, or something else causing the issue? Also, is this salvageable or should I break up the machine for parts? Thank you.
Well, the T7400 is not a supported CPU in this series. Mostly you are limited to what Apple used as the systems EFI firmware (BIOS) A1176 systems Apple never offered the T7400 on this logic board. Here’s the best CPU your system can support Core2 Duo - T5600 Here’s the Core2 Duo T7400 spec sheet. Even though the Bus Frequencies are the same (667 MHz) and the generation are both Merom I don’t know of anyone getting it to work. I would put the original CPU back in.
