Yesterday the screen on my 2018 MacBook Pro 13” with the touch bar turned purple. It still works if you only open it up about 25 degrees. We talked to Apple and they offered to replace the screen for $475. Any other options? Is this part of the flexgate issue?

Its starting to look like there is a FlexGate-II This is now the third system posted here which noted the angle altered the screens display Vs backlight. I’m not sure if its the same short cable issue discovered with the 2016 models backlight issue. It’s possible the issue is still within the T-CON board where the cables connect to from the LCD panel. The black plastic clutch cover which covers the area might not offer enough protection from a bang. Which while a weakness is not at the level of a recall. Sadly, you’ll need a new display assembly to fix this.

Have this problem too. And the keybord thing as well.

My wife’s machine has the purple death as well. But it only came back to life a few times at unpredictable angles. Apple online chat said ‘take it to an authorized repair’. An hour trip to Ipswich UK to find out they quoted at £600 (roughly $800) to replace the whole display after looking at it for ten seconds. I wasn’t too pleased with Apple at that moment as they had a screenshot of the problem so could have simply told me that fact. I don’t think this is good for their customer base and it isn’t good for shareholders either (I happen to be both in this case). Should be an upgrade path to newer model if they are essentially writing off customers with 1.x year old machines. I have an old 2007 iMac to use as a screen so at least I can use it in an office until I can find a cheaper solution.
