Hi All , Appreciate any help on this issue, Nothing happens when I press the power button on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. The battery indicator is blinking green , but the MagSafe indicator stays green without turning to amber. So far tried to power it on by , 1 .Resetting the SMC 2. Removed the battery and plugging the MagSage while holding the power button and releasing it. 3. Used Different MagSafe Charges Any advice on what would be the issue here ? Could this be a fried logic borad ? worried Update I : 2017 / 11 / 05 So I replaced the battery from a another working Mid 2012 MacBook Pro . However it did not make any difference , no fan spin , no lights. Noticed that the battery indicator lights at side does not light up when I press the battery indicate button with MagSafe removed. New battery was half full at this time. Also, MagSafe did not turn amber with the new battery . What could be the issue ? Thanks a lot for all the responses so far …
On this model, It’s very common for the U7000 chip to go bad. That chip sends out the main power rail and charges the battery. It can be replaced by someone with the proper skills. The U7000 chip does a few important things. The most important thing it does is convert the 18v from the charger or battery and turns it into 12.6 v which will power the entire machine. It also uses a set of resistors for current sensing which is used to determine how much power your machine is using and for safety reasons to turn off the charger or battery if there is a short in the machine. The chip also sends out SMC_BC_ACOK which enables the OneWire circuit. In short, the onewire circuit makes the green light come on in your charger. The chip can fail from liquid damage, but most commonly on that machine it just fails from age. Common characteristics of the failure include no power and no green light on the charger.
Try a reboot in this order:
- remove mag-safe and unplug battery
- press and hold power on button for 10 seconds
- reconnect battery
- reconnect mag-safe you should get a spontaneous reboot
