Dear all, My MacBook Pro late 2013 13 inch laptop’s SSD got suddenly dead recently. I need your advice on replacement option. Currently I have installed maverick through internet recovery in an external Samsung SSD but if I am trying to upgrade to High Sierra or Mojave it is saying firmware partition missing. I have evaluated the option of installing OWC SSD but in various forum I have seen people saying they are facing issues to upgrade to high Sierra or Mojave . request you all to kindly advise what would be the best and valid option to make my MacBook Pro work again. I don’t have that amount of money now to invest in new Mac .

Take a look at this Q & A of mine when I had the same issue: You may not install this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition You may not install this volume because the computer is missing a firm

I am dealing with this issue after trying to upgrade to High Sierra OS and it freezing during the install. Well after the power off and reboot the SSD drive internally seems to have died or is not being seen by the MacBook Pro anymore. I have been searching for days for a solution on fixing this. I will try a new internal ssd drive. But last night I had an external drive hooked up and I used another MacBook to make a bootable USB with Mojave on it and installed it to the external. But before I could do this I was getting the same issue you are having with the missing update to that drive. If you format the external in the new AFPS it will then let you chose that drive in the OS install and then let you upgrade all the way up to the newest. Hope that helps. I am still stuck on if to buy a new drive and if that will solve my issues because I do not want to bring my Mac to apple to have them charge me more than it is worth to fix it.
