So when I boot up my macbook the caps lock light turns on but not the backlit keyboard. I’m not sure if I can hear any fans. The screen stays black no matter what I do. It was working fine last night then wouldn’t wake up from sleep. I tried some things and got it to turn on eventually after about five hours. I’m not sure how though. Then I tried to install mac high sierra because I thought maybe it needed to be updated. It never finished updating and was stuck on that black screen again. Now I cannot get it to turn on again. Please help. Thanks. Hi. To add to this. Sometimes if I hold down the power button to turn it on a screen shows a little folder with a question mark. but it does not always do this when it turns on. So I am at a loss.

Seems like a faulty SSD. Is it still under warranty?

Try to reset NVRAM/PRAM to boot your Mac

  1. Shut down your Mac
  2. Press the power button. Once you hear the startup chime, hold down CMND + OPT + P + R.
  3. Hold these until you hear another startup chime, then release them.
