I’m repairing a macbook air for a friend that’s super slow and the fan is at max speed all the time. There was some water damage and in task manager “kernel_task" is using up the cpu which I believe means its throttling itself. But when I got TG Pro to diagnose it it says the optical drive temperature sensor may be bad but theres no optical drive in macbook airs? Any help would be super helpful
If the computer is slow, has overworking fans, and has a maxed out CPU, then there may be a malware infection. Try running several different antivirus programs on it. Malwarebytes has a free antivirus version for Mac computers on their site.
The SMC logic can be fooled when its sensor lines get wet. Take the logic board out and inspect it for corrosion. Follow this guide MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Logic Board Replacement Locate the Cyan marked chip on the left side of the logic board that’s the SMC on the back side.
