Hi I’m having a few issues with a A1226 Macbook Pro which I have a slight idea of the issue but don’t want to start ordering parts unless I am certain. I read a few other questions here with users having similar issues however mine seems to be slightly different (of course) :/ When the Mac powers on I can see a VERY faint image on the LCD when held into the light. I tried connecting to an external monitor and get nothing at all (the monitor doesn’t even post) This could possibly be caused by not having a hard drive in the unit as the external monitor usually turns on once the OS has booted? Please correct me if I am wrong. With that being said, do you guys think its the inverter board or the Left I/O board? I was thinking it could possibly be the inverter board but no video on the external monitor is making me think otherwise.. unless its not turning on because I have no drive in the unit. I would appreciate any help that you guys can offer. Thank god for this website and all the great users. Gotta love the iNet! :) -Tony
Boot with some sort of startup system (install disk - external disk). to ensure the GPU is not gone. However since you can see a faint image you likely have a bad inverter, inverter cable or board. I have never heard of the i/o board causing a dim display. The most often component to fail is the cable (and it’s the cheapest fix). If this answer was helpful please remember to mark it accepted.''
