I have a pair of Mackie HR824 and one fails to power on. There is a manual always on mode and that does not seem to work anymore either. Does anyone have experience repairing these devices? I have received the circuit diagram from the manufacturer, but I was looking for common issues to look for with this units, or typical failure points specific to these units. Thanks for any input.

Aaron, for a completely dead Mackie HR824 I would start checking the following first: AC power cord / J10 plug & socket , open primary winding of transformer T1, and a blown fuse XF1 2.5A 120V. Also, when you have it apart, check for leaky and bulging caps, pretty common error. May be you could post a copy of the diagram as an image on here. that way somebody else can help you diagnose it a bit more precise. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hey guys, So just to be clear is it the hr824 or hr824II? If its just the hr824, there is a service bulletin for the auto on function failure. This only effects models pre april 2001. So that could be an issue. I could send you the info on the fix if need be.

I’m having the same sort of problem. Pre 2001 HR824s. Funny thing is both have developed the problem at about the same time. I’ve never used the auto-on function, just powered up the speakers from the front switch. I intermittently lose the woofer- sometimes works for a bit then fades- sometimes if I crank the input it’ll return for a bit. Now on one of them, sometimes it doesn’t power on at all….. but then may intermittently come back on (though the woofer seems permanently out on that one). If I work the auto-on switch back and forth it’s really crackly, and I suspect its that switch that’s shot. Brian, does the service bulletin you mentioned cover a fix for that? If so, would you send it to me? Many thanks- I need my monitors back!
