My iPod I got does some weird stuff, firstly it dies at 75%, doesn’t shuffle when you select shuffle songs, and dies immediately if you change albums but last around an hour if you don’t.
The problem seems battery related. Have you replaced the battery on the iPod? I have had a couple 5Gs with defective batteries that had similar behavior.
