My Dell inspiration N 5010 just cannot get started. When I plugged in the power and press the start key, nothing happened, no reactions at all. No sound. Then I took out the battery and plug in the source cable again, still nothing at all. I notice that when connected to the power source, the light on the adapter was on. But as soon as plugged into the laptop, it went off immediately. I also tried other adapter but the very same thing happened. My question is what was wrong with my laptop, and how I can fix it myself. Someone says it has something to do with the mother board but I am not sure. Please help me with this issue. Thank you.

Xu Sun, since you already tried different AC adapters you can most likely rule it out. I would first check the DC plug on your motherboard. Make sure it is properly connected and that it does get power. Check the connectors for any broken solder etc. To work on your laptop, get the service manual from here.

There is power supply chip in the motherboard which handles every power related things inside motherboard like charging display power supply. If there is any problem with anywhere related with power things this chip won’t let it on and same thing is happening. So there is power supply chip problem.

Something else you may want to try. I had an issue where I’d press the power button on my Inspiron N5010, the light would come on, then immediately go off. No POST, no Dell slash screen. I replaced the I/O board and same symptoms. Next I replaced the motherboard and the same symptoms occurred. I had already removed ram, CD, HDD, etc., and nothing. As a last ditch effort I removed the keyboard and plugged in a usb keyboard. And that my friends solved the issue in my case. Ordered a new keyboard, installed it, and everything appears to be working fine now. I wanted to post this just in case someone else has had the same issue and hadn’t tried testing the keyboard.

Its probably your DC jack has some off or got dry soldered from mother board but if you care confident about the DC jack is fine then you may can try by cleaning your motherboard with isopropyle alcohol and gently dry it at distance by using some hair dryer.
