My laptop will power on but the screen stays black
It sounds like either your LCD is dead or your backlight inverter went out. To determine if the inverter went out, get a flashlight and shine it on the screen (with the laptop on) and see if you can see things, if you cant then your LCD may be bad. To check the LCD, connect your laptop to another monitor or tv, if the screen pops up and displays fine, then there is a problem with the LCD. If that doesnt happen, there could be a bigger issue, at which point I would suggest taking it somewhere to have it looked at because diagnosing things like that at home can be difficult.
