My Mac air has horizontal colored lines after being on for 5 minutes. Then, after a couple more minutes it powers off by itself?? How do I know if the problem is with the screen or something else?? Update (04/06/2020)

You could try connecting your system to an external display or TV But the fact the system shuts down is telling me you have something deeper going on here. Update (04/07/2020) Sad to say your logic board has failed! The CPU in this series also has the graphics engine within it, which is the source of this odd display pattern.
